Safety First TrainingWe currently offer safety courses for the following: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Safety Orientation, Confined Spaces and Emergency First Aid WHMIS - Monday A.M.The College’s 4-hour classroom course offers a basic understanding of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) regulation including roles and responsibilities of employers, employees and suppliers. Topics include worker education, hazard symbols and labels & material safety data sheets. Safety Orientation — Monday P.M.Our 4-hour classroom study course introduces students to their rights and responsibilities under the OH&S Act. The instructor targets topics including Joint Occupational Health & Safety committees, personal protective equipment and accident reporting as well as hazard awareness and OH&S general regulations. Fall Protection — TuesdayOur 8-hour classroom instruction course includes learning all current legislation for working at heights, the definition of fall protection and the ABC’s of fall arrest. Instruction for calculating fall distances and forces, maintaining and inspection of PPE, as well as proper harness fitting & identification and controlling hazards when working at heights are also covered. Confined Spaces — Wednesday and ThursdayCMTC’S 16-hour two-day classroom training course provides students with a basic awareness of what to consider when working in confined spaces. Teaching includes definition of a confined space, types of hazards and hazard control as well as legislation, responsibilities and rescue planning. Emergency First Aid — FridayThe College’s one-day (6.5 hour) classroom course teaches the essentials of emergency first aid and CPR. The course is designed to assist employers in meeting their obligations under the OH&S legislation.

About Safety WeekThe Carpenter and Millwrights Trades College (CMTC), partnering with the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association (NSCSA), is pleased to offer our 2011 schedule for Safety Week Training. By offering courses during the first full week of each month, we hope employers
and employees alike will be able to more easily plan regularly scheduled training,
along with work and other commitments.
Although primarily aimed at construction industry workers, the general public, This plan - for regularly scheduled courses each month - is the first step in making training accessible to all workers in Nova Scotia. In addition to Safety Week, the College will respond to specific company requirements and challenges. We encourage you to contact us to discuss Safety Training that is customized for your needs. |
